The Supreme Court has tasked the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) with investigating a controversial claim regarding an embankment constructed on River Yamuna in Haryana. This development allegedly aims to aid mining operations near the Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary, potentially altering the river's natural course.
During a recent hearing, the bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih examined the plea, highlighting concerns that this embankment might divert the river from Haryana towards Uttar Pradesh. The court emphasized the need for a detailed report by the CEC and set a deadline for submission.
The Supreme Court also instructed the applicant's counsel to provide a copy of the application to the legal representatives of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for their input. The case will continue to be reviewed in the last week of May, amidst ongoing environmental and legal considerations.
