In a significant development on Tuesday, law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district successfully detained four inter-state ganja smugglers, thanks to a collaborative operation between the Lalganj Police and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
Authorities seized a substantial haul, including 1 quintal and 30 kilograms of ganja, an unregistered pistol, a revolver with live ammunition, and Rs 1,08,950 in cash. The operation also involved the capture of vehicles used in the smuggling: an EcoSport car and a truck.
Superintendent of Police Abhinandan disclosed that Hanuman Prasad Yadav, the primary suspect, hails from Jaunpur and has a history of criminal activity across several districts. The capture represents a major victory against a drug trafficking network in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Efforts are underway to dismantle the network entirely, with stringent actions planned under the Gangsters Act and the National Security Act.
