On the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla led the celebrations within the Parliament premises in New Delhi. The event saw enthusiastic participation from Members of Parliament (MPs), former MPs, and staff from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats, who came together to observe the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) as a gesture of national solidarity and commitment to wellness.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Birla emphasized that yoga is a powerful conduit for harmony between the body, mind, and soul. He underlined that yoga transcends its physical dimensions—it is a holistic lifestyle that empowers individuals with spiritual energy, emotional resilience, and mental clarity.

“Yoga Is a Way of Life,” Says Om Birla

Calling yoga a timeless treasure of Indian culture, Shri Birla remarked, “Yoga is not merely an exercise—it is a complete path to well-being. Its transformative power lies in its ability to connect the physical and the metaphysical, offering strength and serenity in a chaotic world.”

He urged the citizens of India, especially the youth, to integrate yoga into their daily routines. He called on them to share their personal journeys of transformation through yoga, noting that such testimonials would encourage others to begin their own journeys towards self-realization and wellness.

Celebrating Yoga’s Global Reach

Shri Birla also celebrated yoga’s global embrace, pointing out that IDY is being commemorated not just in India, but in every corner of the world. Millions are taking part in yoga sessions internationally, drawn by its scientifically recognized benefits and its appeal as a universal tool for healing and wellness.

Highlighting this international impact, the Speaker noted, “Scientific research globally affirms yoga’s role in reducing stress, enhancing mental well-being, and improving concentration and work efficiency. In this age of constant motion and digital overwhelm, yoga offers a sanctuary for the soul.”

Brahma Kumaris Host Mass Yoga Abhyas at Red Fort with Om Birla

In another key event marking the day, Shri Om Birla also led a Mass Yoga Abhyas organized by the Brahma Kumaris at the historic Red Fort premises in Delhi. The event drew hundreds of participants in a peaceful and purposeful display of yogic discipline and inner awareness.

Shri Birla lauded the Brahma Kumaris for their unique contribution in promoting peace and mental harmony through Raj Yoga and Gyan Yoga. He commended the organization for its far-reaching impact—not only in India but across continents—as an emissary of spiritual values and peaceful living.

A Global Footprint of Indian Wisdom

Recounting his recent visit to Brazil, Shri Birla reflected on how the influence of the Brahma Kumaris has fostered strong international ties and inspired communities with Indian spiritual wisdom. “It is a matter of pride that an organization grounded in Indian culture is leaving a positive mark on the global stage,” he said.

He emphasized that the teachings of the Brahma Kumaris—centered on inner peace, self-realization, and universal harmony—are exactly what the world needs today. The organization’s continued advocacy for peace and mental wellness through yoga is in perfect alignment with the core values promoted by IDY.

Yoga as India’s Soft Power and Cultural Bridge

Speaker Birla’s participation in multiple events on IDY 2025, from the Parliament House to the Red Fort, reflects the growing recognition of yoga as an instrument of India’s soft power and its ability to connect cultures. By bringing together politicians, government officials, spiritual leaders, and citizens, these events reinforce the message that wellness is a shared responsibility and a universal pursuit.

The 11th International Day of Yoga, under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, has once again spotlighted India’s leadership in global wellness advocacy. It also reaffirmed that yoga remains a timeless solution to contemporary challenges—from stress management to emotional resilience, from physical fitness to global unity.
