In a dramatic turn of events, Bangladesh's former chief election commissioner, K M Nurul Huda, was arrested following accusations of manipulating elections under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's regime. The Daily Star reported that this is the first instance of a former chief election commissioner being detained in Bangladesh due to election-related issues. Videos have circulated on social media, illustrating the public's outrage as people attacked Huda outside his residence in Uttara, Dhaka. The BNP has filed a case against Huda and 18 others, alleging election misconduct in 2014, 2018, and 2024.
The incident has drawn attention from the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. Authorities condemned the mob's actions, urging citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The government has promised appropriate legal action against those involved in the assault.
