BJP lashed out against opposition parties on Monday, accusing them of surreptitiously attempting to transform the Constitution into a 'Sharia script.' This criticism arose after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav declared that his coalition intends to abolish the amended Waqf Act if voted into power in Bihar.
BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi stated that the INDIA bloc of the RJD-Congress-Left has disrespected the Constitution by opposing the Act, which received parliamentary approval. Trivedi rejected the opposition's claims against the Election Commission's review of electoral rolls, attributing these to their fear of defeat in upcoming Bihar elections.
Further, Trivedi alleged that the opposition alliance's opposition to the Waqf Act is driven by vote bank politics, aimed at Muslim voters. He reiterated the BJP-led NDA's commitment to preserving Dr. B R Ambedkar's constitutional values, asserting that any attempt to replace these with Sharia provisions will be resisted.
