In a dramatic bust at New Jalpaiguri station, fifty-six young women were rescued from being trafficked, officials reported. The operation saw two individuals taken into custody as authorities unraveled a suspected human trafficking plot.
The women, aged 18 to 31, hailed from West Bengal's Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar districts. They had reportedly been deceitfully lured with job promises in Bengaluru but were discovered en route to Bihar without valid tickets.
Authorities grew suspicious during a routine train check, leading to the discovery of inconsistencies in the statements of the accompanying man and woman. The Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police are jointly investigating, focusing on the trafficking aspect.
