The Supreme Court has called for responses from the Centre and all states regarding a presidential reference that seeks clarification on whether timelines can be imposed for handling bills passed by assemblies. This pivotal issue has the potential to impact the entire nation.
A five-judge Constitution bench, led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, has asked for submissions within a week. The bench is set to address procedural details on July 29, as the matter raises significant questions about Constitutional interpretations.
During the session involving senior advocates KK Venugopal and P. Wilson, the bench acknowledged concerns regarding the reference. However, it ruled these objections could be addressed later. The President's inquiries stem from an April Supreme Court verdict regarding the Governor's bill-handling powers.
