A man was apprehended in Kolkata's Watgunj area, accused of raping a woman while promising to facilitate her husband's release from jail, police reported on Thursday.
Following a complaint lodged at Park Street police station by the victim about a month ago, the accused was arrested on Wednesday night from a local guest house.
Claiming to be an Armyman, the suspect allegedly assured legal assistance to the woman, meeting her multiple times over two-three months. During one encounter, he reportedly raped her and later used a video of the incident to blackmail her. Police are investigating his Army association and collecting evidence.
