A 26-year-old murder suspect, Lokesh Suman, died in police custody at the Kinshanganj police station in Baran district on Monday. His family alleges that the police resorted to violence to extract a confession, leading to his death.
Suman, from Barana village, was declared dead at a local hospital after his condition worsened at the police station around 9 am. Suman had been arrested on Saturday for allegedly murdering Babulal Meena, whose body was discovered on Ramgarh Road the previous week.
Accusations of police brutality have emerged from Suman's relatives and community members, who claim he bore injury marks indicating severe torture. They contend his arrest was backdated, alleging he was taken into custody last Tuesday, despite records showing a Saturday arrest.
