An exchange of gunfire in Atlanta's bustling nightlife area resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to ten others, police officials reported early Monday. This incident caps a violent weekend in Georgia's capital.

Officers arrived at the scene on Edgewood Avenue in the Sweet Auburn district around 1:30 a.m. after reports of multiple gunshot casualties and discovered 11 people shot, Police Chief Darin Schierbaum confirmed. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Santos J. Wyatt.

Ten shooting victims, including critically injured individuals, were transported to the hospital. Investigators have set their sights on suspects believed to have begun the Edgewood Avenue shooting, with video evidence to be released soon. Despite recent declines in severe crime statistics, Atlanta faces a challenging summer for gun violence prevention.
