The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government on Tuesday gave the green light to establish the Bihar State Safai Karmachari Commission, aiming to uplift the socio-economic status of sanitation workers across the state.
During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Urban Development and Housing Department's proposal gained approval, marking a significant move with impending assembly elections on the horizon.
An official explained that the commission will address the welfare, protection, and rights of sanitation workers, while also monitoring welfare schemes and promoting their integration into mainstream society. The commission will include a chairperson, vice-chairperson, and five members, including representation from women and transgender individuals.
