In a significant development in Amethi, two men have been apprehended under the 'love jihad' law following serious allegations of rape and forced religious conversion of a 17-year-old girl. The accused, Haider Ali and Ajit Pal, were detained after the victim's brother lodged a formal complaint.
The victim's brother recounted that Ali allegedly took his sister to Hyderabad, where she was kept confined and subjected to abuse and pressure to convert and marry Ali. Following a courageous escape aided by a local from Tikawar, she returned home and disclosed the ordeal to her family.
Legal actions continue as police invoke charges under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act alongside rape charges, after conducting a medical examination on the victim. Authorities have emphasized that Pal was integral to the girl's abduction and activities in Hyderabad, highlighting the gravity of the case.
