Chief Justice of India B R Gavai has underscored the importance of a non-chief justice-centric Supreme Court, stating that he views the chief justice as merely the first among equals. The CJI emphasized the need for collaborative decision-making, regarding both the bar and bench as equal stakeholders.
During a function organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association, Gavai lauded the record number of case disposals during recent partial working days, attributing success to the cooperation of both judges and bar members. The Supreme Court had renamed its summer vacations to 'partial court working days' to boost efficiency.
