In a significant anti-drug operation, the Customs department successfully intercepted and seized hydroponic weed valued at Rs 8 crore at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Four passengers, on separate flights from Thailand, were detained and subsequently arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.
The first incident involved three passengers arriving from Bangkok. During a routine baggage check, Customs officials discovered 1.99 kg of hydroponic weed, cunningly hidden within vacuum-sealed black and transparent plastic packets, with an estimated market value of Rs 2 crore.
Later, on the same day, another passenger arriving from Thailand was caught with 6.022 kg of the drug, cleverly concealed inside his trolley bag, valued at Rs 6 crore. All individuals were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, for their involvement in the illegal operation.
