The Karnataka state government is actively scrutinizing social media for posts concerning the alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala. According to Home Minister G Parameshwara, any posts that risk inciting societal unrest will face action.
Allegations of mass murder, rape, and burials over two decades have prompted the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The claims were first made by a former sanitation worker who reported seeing signs of sexual assault on bodies buried in the area between 1995 and 2014.
Further complicating matters, Pronab Mohanty, SIT chief, holds a possible central government appointment. Discussions continue about his future role amid ongoing efforts to address issues of fake news and online gambling regulation.
