In a significant breakthrough, police in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district have dismantled a widespread fake currency racket. The operation, which was disclosed on Friday, resulted in the apprehension of seven members linked to an inter-district criminal gang and the seizure of counterfeit currency valued at Rs 59.50 lakh.
The arrests took place across multiple districts, with two suspects detained in Ahilyanagar, and others nabbed in Beed and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Law enforcement officials are also on the lookout for an eighth member, currently at large, believed to be integral to the racket.
Besides counterfeit notes, authorities confiscated high-quality paper and ink, valued at Rs 2.16 crore, reportedly utilized in the production of the phony currency. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the criminal network's operations.
