Tragic Canal Accident Claims 11 Lives in SUV Plunge

An SUV accident in the district saw a vehicle plunge into the Saryu canal, resulting in 11 fatalities and four serious injuries, police reported on Sunday.

According to the Station House Officer at the Itiathok police station, Krishn Gopal Rai, the victims were en route from Sihagaon village to Prithvinath Temple when the accident unfolded near Belwa Bahuta. A total of 15 people, including the driver, were onboard.

Rescue operations by locals and teams resulted in the recovery of 11 bodies, while four survivors were transported to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities have commenced an investigation, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced Rs 5 lakh financial assistance per bereaved family.
