In a decisive effort to reduce tensions on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea has started dismantling loudspeakers along its border with North Korea.
Previously used for anti-North propaganda, the broadcasts had been halted by the new liberal South Korean government in a move to foster trust and dialogue. The removal comes without prior consultation between the two militaries and marks another step towards easing hostilities while maintaining military readiness.
Northern counterpart Kim Jong Un has remained silent on this action, though his sister recently rebuffed South Korea's diplomatic overtures, citing diminishing urgency due to their alliances with Russia amidst the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
