In a pivotal ruling, a CBI court in Mohali has handed down life sentences to five former police officials involved in the notorious 1993 fake encounter case that claimed the lives of seven individuals in Punjab's Tarn Taran district.
The verdict, delivered by CBI Special Judge Baljinder Singh Sra, also imposed a hefty fine of Rs 3.50 lakh on each convict, highlighting their conduct as 'morally bankrupt and profoundly inhumane'.
