In a significant development related to the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper case, the plea for release of alleged middleman Christian Michel James has been met with opposition from two central probe agencies, the CBI and the ED.
During a hearing led by Special Judge Sanjay Jindal, arguments were presented against James' release on grounds that he had completed a seven-year sentence. Prosecutors maintained that the terms served in custody were insufficient for a complete release at this stage.
The case has seen extensive legal proceedings since James was extradited from Dubai in December 2018. Despite being granted bail in related cases, he remains in Tihar prison. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 5.
