In a troubling incident in Odisha's Jajpur district, 28-year-old Rabindra Mallik reportedly attempted suicide by consuming poison after alleging police torture in custody. According to authorities, Mallik, from Mahipur village, is battling for his life in Cuttack's SCB Medical College and Hospital.

The distressing episode unfolded after Mallik and his cousin Badal filed complaints against each other following a family dispute. Acting on Badal's complaint, police detained Mallik, who claims to have faced brutal assaults and degrading treatment while in custody. Mallik's family alleges police denied them access to him, leading Rabindra to take the drastic step.

Contrastingly, Balichandrapur police station Inspector-in-Charge Samarjit Nayak refuted the torture accusations, stating Mallik was hospitalized due to a sudden illness. This incident has intensified scrutiny of police conduct in custody cases.
