NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar has called on the Supreme Court collegium to revoke its recommendation of former BJP spokesperson Aarti Sathe for a High Court judge position. According to Pawar, Sathe's past political affiliations could jeopardize the judiciary's impartiality.
He raised concerns about the fairness of the judiciary if a judge, formerly associated with a ruling political party, handles cases against the government. While BJP claims Sathe resigned two years ago, Pawar questioned whether she held any party position at the time of her interview for the judicial role.
Other political figures, like Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, have joined Pawar in criticizing the appointment. They argue that appointing individuals with overt political ties harms the credibility and tradition of the judiciary, pointing out similar instances in other high courts under the BJP government.
