Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the alleged murder of a NEET aspirant in Gorakhpur by suspected cattle smugglers. Yadav criticized the BJP government, stating that despite its promise to eradicate cattle smuggling, the issue persists.
In a press conference, Yadav argued that the Gorakhpur incident highlights the inefficacy of the state's proclaimed 'zero tolerance' stance. The 20-year-old victim, Deepak Gupta, reportedly died during a clash involving cattle smugglers and locals, leading to public unrest.
The former Chief Minister further alleged that the BJP has encouraged illegal cattle trade, questioning their electoral motives. He also brought attention to alleged land-grabbing schemes associated with BJP affiliates in regions like Varanasi and Gorakhpur, calling for accountability.
