Prime Minister’s Address: Women’s Health at the Core of Viksit Bharat
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister underlined the central role of women in national development.
“Our mothers and sisters, our Nari Shakti, are the foundation of our Rashtra Pragati (National Progress). If a mother is healthy, the entire family stays healthy. Therefore, this campaign is dedicated to mothers and sisters for their bright and healthy future,” he said.
PM Modi described Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar as a Maha Abhiyaan (mega campaign) to promote women-led development, one of the pillars of Viksit Bharat @2047. He emphasized the importance of early diagnosis for diseases like diabetes, hypertension, anaemia, and cancer, reiterating that all tests and medicines under the campaign will be free of cost.
He appealed to women, especially those from tribal regions, to actively avail the services. “Our resolve is that no mother or daughter should be left behind. Those who require further treatment can use the Ayushman cards, which act as a Suraksha Kavach (protective shield),” the PM added.
Highlight on Sickle Cell Elimination
The Prime Minister also highlighted government efforts towards combating sickle cell anaemia, a major health concern in tribal areas. During the event, he handed over the one croreth sickle cell card, symbolising a national mission for elimination of the disease.
He informed that over 5 crore people have already been screened under the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Mission, launched in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, and lakhs of tribal lives have been saved through timely detection and treatment.
Government Schemes Supporting Women’s Health
PM Modi referred to several schemes that strengthen the government’s commitment to women’s well-being, including the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), launched in 2017.
-
Over 4.5 crore pregnant women have benefitted under PMMVY.
-
More than ₹19,000 crore has been directly transferred to their bank accounts to support maternal and child health.
-
Significant strides are being made to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) as part of India’s developmental roadmap.
Madhya Pradesh’s Role in the Launch
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s decision to launch this transformative initiative from the tribal heartland of Dhar. He acknowledged that the past 11 years have seen historic progress, particularly in the area of women’s empowerment and healthcare accessibility.
A Landmark Step Towards Healthy and Empowered Families
The Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, in synergy with Rashtriya Poshan Maah, represents a comprehensive and community-driven model for women’s and children’s health. It combines medical outreach, preventive screenings, nutrition education, and awareness campaigns to ensure a healthier future for families and stronger communities.
As the campaign unfolds across the nation, it reinforces the vision of a Viksit Bharat, where Nari Shakti is both the foundation and the driving force of development.
