In a decisive ruling, the Delhi High Court has authorized the demolition and reconstruction of the Signature View Apartments in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi. This decision comes following an appeal filed by Man Mohan Singh Attri against an earlier order issued in December of last year.
The division bench, led by Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, supported the single judge's assessment that there was ample evidence presented for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to decide on demolishing the structures. The buildings, initially erected for the Commonwealth Games 2010, have been declared structurally unsafe.
Expert evaluations, including a report from IIT Delhi, concluded that the Signature View Apartments, consisting of 336 flats across 12 towers, were fundamentally unsound. Consequently, the court has reinforced the necessity for demolition, aligning with the Delhi Development Authority's findings and the MCD's directives under Section 348 of the DMC Act.
