The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has voiced disapproval of Chief Justice of India B R Gavai's comments regarding a plea to restore the Lord Vishnu idol at Khajuraho. The VHP asserted that remarks perceived as mocking Hindu beliefs should be avoided.
The CJI, heading a bench, dismissed the plea as 'publicity interest litigation,' suggesting the petitioner consult the deity directly. The VHP's national president, Alok Kumar, emphasized respect and trust in the judiciary, urging restraint in court comments.
In response to online criticism, CJI Gavai expressed respect for all religions. The original plea, led by Rakesh Dalal, aimed at replacing the damaged idol fell under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), according to the court.
