A Delhi court has delivered a verdict against six men involved in the February 2020 riots, convicting them of charges including rioting and arson. The judgment came after the prosecution demonstrated that the defendants were part of a mob that vandalized and set fire to a shop, proving their crimes beyond a reasonable doubt.
Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh emphasized the use of deadly weapons by the mob, which consisted of around 100 to 150 people. The judge noted that the prosecution's evidence, particularly the testimony of head constable Sandeep, was not undermined during cross-examination.
The court's order acquitted the accused of causing mischief by fire with intent to destroy property under Section 436 of the IPC, yet convicting them on other counts. Sentencing arguments are scheduled for September 19, addressing the broader implications of the illegal assembly's actions.
