The Election Commission of India has appointed Arun Prasad as the Additional Chief Electoral Officer and Harishankar Panikkar as the Joint Chief Electoral Officer for West Bengal, officials announced on Thursday.
The appointments occur before the Commission's planned Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state. According to officials, the state government submitted a panel of names, from which Prasad, a 2011-batch IAS officer, and Panikkar, from the 2013 batch, were selected.
The Election Commission also expects a new list of nominees for the vacant Deputy Chief Electoral Officer position, emphasizing candidates with significant electoral experience, reflecting the Commission's ongoing efforts to ensure effective election processes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
