Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has launched a strong critique against the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, spotlighting the state's grim statistics on crimes against Dalits. According to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data revealed by Yadav, Uttar Pradesh reported 15,130 such cases, making it a leader on this ignominious list, with Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh following with 8,449 and 8,232 cases, respectively.
Yadav accused the government of failing its people, saying these figures starkly contradict its safety assurances. He argued that the oppression of Dalits in Uttar Pradesh is at an all-time high, urging for the creation of investigative bodies, special units, and public awareness campaigns to tackle the systemic issue.
However, the UP police have rebutted these criticisms by pointing to their zero-tolerance policies and strategic law enforcement reforms that have, according to them, led to a crime rate well below the national average in a state with the largest population. The discrepancy between these narratives underscores the ongoing contentious debate regarding crime and governance in the region.
