In a remarkable display of law enforcement, Kolkata Police arrested 127 individuals during the Durga Puja festivities. The arrests were made on the night of Maha Nabami, targeting offenders involved in indecent behaviour and reckless driving, according to an official statement released on Thursday.
Besides these arrests, Kolkata Police reported booking 1,993 individuals for varying traffic violations, including riding without helmets and triple riding. The police maintained a strict vigil to ensure compliance with traffic regulations during the festival.
To handle the massive crowds and maintain public safety, over 5,000 police personnel were deployed throughout the city and its adjoining areas. Assistance came from numerous civic volunteers, indicating the scale of operations undertaken by Kolkata Police during this festive period.
