In a major crackdown, Delhi Police have dismantled a firecracker supply racket ahead of Diwali, a time when such sales are prohibited in the city to combat air pollution. Three individuals, including a father-son duo, have been apprehended, authorities announced on Friday.
Law enforcement seized an extensive haul of 914 boxes of assorted firecrackers from various city spots. The stock, sourced from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was secured following intelligence-led operations. The suspects have been named as Bhagwati Prasad, his son Tarun Singhal, and Rajiv Goel.
A strategic operation near Bank Colony Road led to the capture of Prasad and his son, along with their illicit cargo. Further investigation unveiled a shop at Nand Nagri Fatak, yielding 71 boxes of illegal crackers. Subsequent leads took police to Goel's godown, uncovering 818 more boxes, resulting in charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Explosives Act.
