In a distressing escalation of tensions on the Assam-Nagaland border, suspected miscreants from Nagaland allegedly set ablaze approximately 90 houses in Assam's Golaghat district on Friday, according to high-ranking officials.
Amidst the chaos, the assailants reportedly fired shots into the air, inciting panic in the predominantly Muslim community. The attack occurred in the early hours in the Tengatal of Uriamghat, Sector B in Sarupathar, along the interstate boundary.
The incident, attributed to land claims, resulted in the displaced villagers fleeing amid gunfire. Reports confirm significant property damage but no casualties. Authorities have since arrived on the scene to restore order, but tensions remain high.
