AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns over the perceived double standards in expressing religious sentiments in India. He noted that while proclaiming love for Prime Minister Modi is acceptable, expressing the same for Prophet Muhammad isn't, which he says signals a troubling direction for the nation.
Owaisi's comments came after an FIR was filed against individuals in Uttar Pradesh for displaying 'I Love Mohammad' boards during an Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession. This incident has escalated tensions, especially in areas like Kanpur and Bareilly, where clashes have occurred during protests.
The Hyderabad MP clarified that he has no objections to public displays of affinity towards leaders like Modi but questions the restrictions on similar expressions towards religious figures. The ensuing controversy highlights ongoing debates surrounding freedom of expression and religious identity in the country.
