In the aftermath of a pivotal trial that captivated France and the world, an appeals court is revisiting the conviction of Husamettin Dogan, who contests his nine-year prison sentence for involvement in the drugging and rape of Gisele Pelicot, a figure now synonymous with resistance against sexual violence.

Dogan contends that he was misled by Dominique Pelicot, Gisele's former husband, who admitted to drugging his wife and filming her abuse by multiple men. Dominique was handed a 20-year sentence after confessing, a verdict he did not challenge.

While the original trial unfolded over four intense months, the current retrial in Nimes is scheduled for just four days. The outcome is anticipated on Thursday. Dogan is the sole individual among the 51 originally convicted to persist in appealing his sentence.
