Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah staunchly defended the ongoing social and educational survey, often dubbed the ''caste census'', on Monday. He criticized those opposing the survey as resisting the creation of an egalitarian society, describing their comments as misleading.
Siddaramaiah further clarified his position regarding the Lingayat community's request for distinct religious recognition, stating that he has no personal stance on the matter. Decisions regarding any extension of the survey's deadline will depend on the coverage achieved by Tuesday evening.
The survey, initiated by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes on September 22, is set to finalize on October 7. Already reporting 63% completion with data from 1.10 crore households, the CM remains optimistic about finishing by the deadline despite some sectors' resistance.
