High Court Dismisses Electoral Appeals Case: Supreme Court Next

The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a petition requesting relief for electors who have filed appeals with the SIR appellate tribunals, directing the petitioner to seek resolution from the Supreme Court instead. The decision by the division bench, led by Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, emphasized that all matters related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls should be addressed by the Supreme Court.

The petition, filed by Sk Anwar Ali, chairperson of the legal cell for the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, aimed to provide solutions for individuals whose names were removed from electoral rolls during the SIR process. The court noted that administrative procedures had already been followed, including providing tribunal judges' names as instructed by the apex court.

Moving forward, the petitioner's legal representative confirmed that preparations for a petition to the Supreme Court are underway. Appeals regarding deleted electoral entries, as per the Supreme Court's direction, can be presented before appellate tribunals, allowing affected voters a legal recourse.
