In Chamba, Tehri district, a tragic accident occurred when a utility pickup vehicle plunged into a gorge, claiming the lives of eight individuals and injuring two others. The occupants were returning from the last rites of a fellow villager in Haridwar when the vehicle's driver lost control, confirmed Tehri District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal.
Emergency and rescue teams swiftly responded, recovering eight bodies and taking the injured to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his heartfelt condolences, urging the district administration to provide prompt medical treatment for the survivors.
Rescue operations remain ongoing as the State Disaster Response Force, local police, and fire service personnel work tirelessly to ensure no one is left behind. The response efforts were immediately activated via the Dial 112 emergency service, which dispatched two ambulances and additional rescue teams to the scene.
