Human Rights Commission Advocates for Iranian Student's Swimming Pool Access

The State Human Rights Commission has ruled in favor of Sara Moosavi, an Iranian student at Kerala University, acknowledging her right to access the swimming pool at the Kariavattom campus. This decision follows a complaint filed by Moosavi who alleged racial discrimination.

Justice Alexander Thomas, Chairperson of the Commission, mandated the Sports and Youth Affairs Department to provide necessary facilities. There have been claims that staff allegedly barred Moosavi, stating only Indian citizens could use the pool. The Commission has also instructed the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner to seek explanations from the Kazhakkoottam Assistant Commissioner and the Station House Officer for procedural failures.

While a report on the racial abuse complaint was completed and submitted to court, the Director of the Sports Department confirmed no restrictions on pool access. Further investigations into the racial abuse claims are to be conducted by the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner.
