A court in Thiruvananthapuram sentenced a land surveyor to four years of rigorous imprisonment over a bribery case on Friday. Judge Manoj A of the Vigilance Court found Gireeshan C guilty of soliciting a bribe in 2022 while serving at the Taluk Land Records Office.

The prosecution detailed how Gireeshan, now a First Grade Surveyor in Kasaragod, delayed the land measurement for a complainant from Chirayinkeezhu and requested a Rs 10,000 bribe to submit the report. This led the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) to apprehend him during a sting operation.

The case, led by VACB officer Reji Jacob, concluded with Gireeshan's sentencing and a Rs 25,000 fine. The prosecution, represented by Public Prosecutor V Sateeshan, secured the conviction, resulting in Gireeshan's transfer to Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail.
