The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has achieved an overwhelming victory in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation poll, capturing 17 out of 19 seats. This represents a significant shift in the city's political landscape, as ZPM had previously secured just six seats in the 2021 election.
The main opposition party, Mizo National Front (MNF), which had won 11 seats in the 2021 electoral contest, managed to win just a single ward this time. Meanwhile, the Congress bagged one seat, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, which contested 11 seats, did not win any.
The elections saw a voter turnout of 62.77% out of 2.39 lakh eligible voters. The results, declared by the Mizoram State Election Commission, highlight a major political shift within the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, which was established in 2010.
