Supreme Court Moves Forward in Child Rape Case with Special Investigation

The Supreme Court has taken a significant step by allowing the filing of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe report to a Gurugram court concerning the harrowing rape case of a three-year-old girl. The victim's father had earlier sought a court-monitored probe, focusing on the role of doctors in such cases and victim compensation.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant recognized the completion of the probe by a court-appointed SIT consisting of three senior women police officers. The chargesheet is now approved to be filed with the jurisdictional police station, directed to the designated woman POCSO judge in Gurugram.

Earlier rebuking the Haryana Police, the court assembled the SIT of senior IPS officers due to an insensitive investigation approach. The minor victim allegedly suffered continuous assault over two months, reported only after she confided to her mother.
