In a bid to heed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for resource conservation, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal directed municipal officials to surrender extra official vehicles. This step aims to cut down unnecessary fuel consumption and promote rational use of resources.
The mayor advised that officials bringing two vehicles to work must surrender one, and encouraged staff to bring lunch from home instead of traveling back during lunch hours. This comes amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia, urging citizens to minimize foreign travel and cut down on the purchase of petrol and diesel.
Kharkwal set an example by withdrawing one of her own official vehicles. All vehicles will now be allotted strictly according to eligibility, and the municipal commissioner has been tasked with ensuring compliance with these measures.
