CBI Arrests Fugitive in Tripura Chit Fund Scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended Sanjit Chakraborty, a proclaimed offender linked to two major chit fund scam cases in Tripura, officials revealed on Wednesday. The scams reportedly amount to over Rs 7.75 crore.
Chakraborty, the chairman and managing director of Cosmic Negociators Pvt Ltd, was arrested in Kolkata on May 12. He had been on the run since 2013, with chargesheets filed against him in two separate cases related to defrauding public funds, according to an official statement.
CBI officials stated that the cases were initially registered by the Tripura Police in 2013 and later handed over to the agency following orders by the Tripura government and central authorities. Following persistent surveillance operations, Chakraborty was apprehended in West Bengal and will be transferred to Tripura for further legal proceedings.
