In a significant operation, police retrieved 20 packets of charas, each weighing one kilogram, from an island near Jakhau port in Gujarat's Kutch district. This operation was part of a comprehensive patrolling initiative jointly conducted by the Special Operations Group and Jakhau Marine Police.
The seized charas, valued at approximately Rs 2.5 lakh per kilogram in the international market, highlights the growing issue of drug contraband along the coastal areas. Enhanced patrolling was triggered by recent weather conditions and suspicious sea currents, as authorities stepped up efforts to combat illegal smuggling activities.
Since May 2, a total of 82 unclaimed charas packets, valued at Rs 2.05 crore, have been discovered along the Kutch coastline, affecting locations such as Mandvi, the Pingleshwar coast, and even Khidrat island. The operation remains ongoing as officials aim to thwart smuggling attempts and secure the region's coastline.
