The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has rolled out an AI-driven chatbot, ABHAY, designed to safeguard individuals from the rising threat of digital arrest scams. These scams involve criminals masquerading as legitimate officials, wielding forged documents to extort unsuspecting victims.
ABHAY offers a first-of-its-kind real-time verification system, accessible via the CBI's official website. Users can verify the authenticity of notices purporting to be from the CBI by visiting the website, undergoing an OTP verification, and uploading a scanned copy of the notice.
The agency underscores the growing challenge posed by technologies like Artificial Intelligence and deep fakes, which have blurred the lines between genuine and fabricated documents, hence necessitating the need for a tool like ABHAY to prevent victims from falling for these scams.
