Nepal Launches 'MoFA Mitra' App for Digital Consular Services
Nepal has introduced the 'MoFA Mitra' app to provide digital consular assistance to its citizens abroad. Launched by Shisir Khanal, it aims to make consular services more accessible for millions of Nepalese living outside the country, allowing them to track requests and communicate with missions.
Nepal on Tuesday launched a mobile application to provide digital consular assistance to citizens abroad and their families, officials said.
The 'MoFA Mitra' mobile application was formally launched by Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at a programme held at the Department of Consular Services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripureshwar, Nepal.
Consular assistance has become more important than ever, as millions of Nepalese are living outside the country and the trend of going abroad continues to rise, Khanal said.
Out of every six Nepalese, one is living abroad for one or the other reason, that means five million Nepalese are living abroad..., he said.
He also underscored the importance of leveraging digital technology to make consular services more accessible and effective.
The application enables Nepali citizens abroad and their families to register their consular-related concerns and grievances online, receive timely updates on their requests, track the status of their requests and communicate directly with the Nepali missions concerned for the effective resolution of their issues, he said.
Now, grievances and problems of Nepalese nationals living in a foreign country can be communicated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through this mobile application, he said.
Matters related to the rescue and repatriation of Nepalese who are stranded in a foreign country can also be dealt with through this mobile application... according to Durpad Sapkota, Director General at the Consular Service of the Ministry.
