The Civil Guard in Spain has initiated a search operation at the headquarters of the ruling Socialist Party in Madrid. This action forms part of an ongoing investigation into financial misconduct by party members, according to statements made on Wednesday.

This investigation is considered another significant challenge for Pedro Sanchez's Socialist Party, which has faced multiple corruption-related accusations in recent times. Furthermore, the Civil Guard, operating under judicial directions, is seeking documents and evidence related to a former party member's alleged misconduct within a state-run enterprise.

Compounding the party's troubles, former Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero is currently subject to a separate court investigation over alleged influence peddling and other potential infractions connected to a government-funded airline bailout, though he has publicly denied any illegal activities.
