The Supreme Court has opted to entrust the Election Commission with the decision regarding a request to amend VVPAT guidelines. This amendment seeks to incorporate precise timestamps on each slip, which could potentially enhance voting verifiability and transparency.

Comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, the bench highlighted that the issue lies within the technical expertise of the poll panel. The bench has directed the registry to submit this plea to the Election Commission for detailed consideration.

The public interest litigation argues that including timestamps could significantly bolster the auditability and integrity of the electoral process. The court recognizes the relevance of the petitioner's concerns but maintains that technical feasibility should be assessed by the appropriate authorities.
