The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sharply criticized an attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials during a raid in Kerala on Wednesday, calling the incident "shameful." The raids were part of an investigation involving Pinarayi Vijayan's financial transactions.
Shehzad Poonawalla, a national spokesperson for BJP, accused the state's Left government and Congress of corruption, alleging they coopt with criminal elements to hinder investigations. As ED personnel conducted the court-mandated operation, violence erupted outside Vijayan's temporary residence, leading to damage of public property and assault on officials, including female officers.
Poonawalla questioned the role of Kerala police and accused them of supporting attackers, further claiming a longstanding nexus between the Left and Congress to protect corrupt practices. He cited similar instances of violence in West Bengal, suggesting a recurring pattern of obstructing justice in politically sensitive investigations.
This incident adds to ongoing tensions in Kerala's political landscape, as BJP alleges targeted attacks are meant to instill fear among those probing allegations of wrongdoing. Despite police efforts, ED officials faced significant hindrances while performing their duties.
