A police complaint has been registered against Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee. The complaint accuses him of using a social media post to incite communal tensions, according to a police officer on Thursday.
The complaint was lodged by Arnab Kanti Das at the Bhowanipur Police Station, describing the post by Banerjee, MP of Diamond Harbour, as 'highly irresponsible'. Police have received a copy of the post dated May 2 and have commenced a preliminary investigation. Legal actions will be determined upon the findings, stated a senior officer from Kolkata Police.
This development follows an FIR against Banerjee lodged days earlier at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime police station for alleged provocative remarks during election campaigning. The complaint, filed by Baguiati resident Rajib Sarkar, pertains to comments made by Banerjee at a rally on April 27, where he purportedly challenged the BJP, leading to political unrest.
